Québec City (Canada) - Laval University has selected Nstein Technologies for the exclusive operation of the Termplus technology. The announcement was made today at the Multimedia International Market (MIM), which is currently being held in Montréal. The partnership between Nstein and Laval University has an initial seven-year term.
"This new partnership with Laval University will enable our company to diversify our services in the area of linguistic intelligence. It will also provide us with an exceptional opportunity to expand our technologies and to position ourselves as a leader in international markets," stated Mario Girard, CEO of Nstein Technologies.
Developed by Jacques Ladouceur, professor of computational linguistics at Laval University, Termplus is a unique technology for complex term retrieval.
The linguistic intelligence technology goes beyond frequency calculations of words that appear in a document to ensure a better understanding of the text.
"This new partnership will enable us to consolidate Nstein's technology. Furthermore, this partnership with Laval University will help foster a close, long-term collaboration between Laval University's computational linguistics department and our own R & D department. In the future, we will, among other things, be able to provide summarisations for large documents such as books," explained Girard. "With this new association, Nstein is entering a new era."
According to Girard, the marriage of Nstein's and Termplus' technologies could eventually result in the development of powerful research engines and the creation of numerous, multi-language categorisation and information management applications.
Founded last February in Québec City, Nstein Technologies intends to enter into additional partnerships similar to the one announced today with Laval University.
"Uniting the major players in the area of linguistic intelligence is an important strategy in Nstein's objectives, and today's agreement with Laval University is only a first step in this direction. In fact, our business plan emphasises acquisitions and partnerships as a means of expansion, both locally and internationally," concluded Mario Girard.
Nstein Technologies (EIN) is listed on the Montréal Exchange.
